How a metal account works

Money → Metal Accounts

Grams are counted fine: 20 g of jewelry tested at 91% is 18.2 g of fine gold. Plus means the other side holds your metal; minus means you owe them metal. Money is on its own account and never mixed in.

Receive metal: weigh it, deduct stones or dirt, enter the purity you measured and how (touchstone, XRF, fire assay). The account moves by the fine content and the metal goes into stock as a lot.

Give metal: from a lot — a customer's deposit handed back, metal lent. Suppliers are given metal the same way from Purchasing; karigars through their jobs.

Settle in money: grams turned into money at a rate you agree. What you owed a customer becomes money on their deposit account; what they owed becomes money on their Khata.

Gold saving: a customer pays money and grams are credited at today's sell rate — you then owe them that metal.

A customer leaves 20 g of old 22K gold, tested at 91%

  • Fine: 20 × 0.91 = 18.2 g — you owe her 18.2 g
  • She takes 5 g back from the lot: you owe 13.65 g
  • 3.65 g settled at today's rate: the money goes on her deposit; you owe 10 g

Confirming and valuing

Confirm the balance with the other side on a date: agreed, disputed, or accept their figure — which adjusts yours, with the permission or a manager's PIN. Print the statement for them to sign.

Valuation: every account at the reporting date's approved rate, beside what the books carry. Your policy (Settings → Orders & Service) decides whether revaluing moves the books — the difference goes to metal gains and losses — or is a report only. Karigars' metal is your own stock and stays at cost.
